I have the good fortune to live in! Uncertain what percent my contribution is ~ I'm only in charge of acquisitions & care ~ the "magic" is all on them which is absolutely out of my league.
Starting the 2012 parade of blooms is old favorite, Cattleya 'Alvin Beggman Poem:'
Paphiopedilum 'Robert McCabe' followed:
The combination of stripes & dots (worn so beautifully) never fails to enthrall me.
If I tried to do anything similar with my wardrobe, I'm absolutely certain I would commit a grievous fashion faux pas! Perfection in the natural world most definitely cannot be rivaled.
That last sentence = the perfect opening for the latest acquisition & bloom ~ Cattleya 'Carolina Sunrise:'
omg ~ is that not to die for or what?!
The tag said "fragrant sunset colors" ~ are we disappointed??
I think not!
The colors should deepen as the bloom matures. I'll be sure & share the developments...
Hope your New Year is off to just as terrific a start. My daughter doesn't go back to school until the 9th of January so we are still "holidaying." (that's my excuse for not being around ~ that and Pinterest ~ I've become way too obsessed!)
Happy New Year all!!!
I just know one of your orchid posts is going to eventually break me down and I'm going to have to get one. You have so many pretty ones. I really love 'Carolina Sunrise'!

I truly lust for orchids but fear my old farmhouse may be too drafty and cold for it, but your pictures may convince me to give one a try.

Unbelievably gorgeous Kathleen. You are the orchid queen!

Yes, I agree, you're the Orchid queen! You take my breath away with these posts! I've always been a huge Orchid fan (I had Orchids in my bridal bouquet). But I'm too chicken to grow them myself. My kids are on break now, too, so we're having some fun family time. Enjoy your time with your daughter!

This is really the great way you discuss this kind of topic. Good job.

'Carolina Sunrise'???? Oh my! Think I need to find that beauty for my house! My three orchids from last year haven't bloomed again.....yet. I haven't killed them either, which I view as a good thing.
Great orchids Kathleen, just beautiful.
