In January I rescued a handful of hyacinth bulbs from the local nursery that were probably otherwise destined for the compost pile. After chilling eight plus weeks, they were recently brought out to the kitchen windowsill for forcing. The buds on one immediately started to open before they had risen above the bulb. For some reason, the vision of the bulb with its tightly clutched cap of blooms prompted the photographer in me??
Is it as captivating to you, in this form, as it was to me?
Could be I'm just enamoured with the soft pink color???!! I thought the bulbs were supposed to be white ~ so this was an unexpected but delightful twist that makes me even happier I salvaged the bulbs. I never buy hyacinths with the intention of planting them in the garden but I end up having them there because after forcing, I can't bring myself to toss them. Now, just as these are beginning to bloom inside, a few outside are almost ready to join them. You can bet this pink one will be planted ~ I'd love a whole swath of this color!
What delicate pink! Thanks for the vote of encouragement on my orchids. Will have to try the 'special' backdrop for my photos. thanks!

I have never seen that formation (blooming just out of the bulb) before. Fascinating! When you transplant it outside, do you plant the Hyacinth bulb immediately after the bloom is done? Or do you let it sit out of water/soil for a while? I've never transplanted a forced bulb before.

Gorgeous blossoms and their fragrance is heavenly. I can understand why you don't have the heart to throw them out after they bloom.

That is the most beautiful tone of pink! For two years now, my forced hyacinths did not come up. Darn!

Wow - that is beautiful. Haven't seen that shade of pink in a Hyacinth but I'll be looking for it now. I am so glad you rescued these bulbs and glad you are putting them in your yard...way too pretty to toss out.
