"Shooting stars" on Allium 'schubertii' ~ referencing one of my neighbors who asked the question last spring "what is that fireworks looking plant?"
Ever since that day, I see the flowers as "stars." The picture below (even tho it's not a good quality photo) demonstrates why perfectly:
The overall appearance of the bulb in bloom does favor a starburst effect ~ reminiscent of fireworks ~ don't you agree? Here is a bloom in its entirety:
More of these bulbs will be added this fall since the originals did not return ~ I didn't deadhead them last spring, hoping they'd disperse a zillion seeds and stock my garden. I think the result was the bulb didn't get fed???
I plan to post more on Alliums in the near future since I am fortunate to have many different varieties in bloom or about to bloom right now. Stay tuned....
The "stripes" part of the post is the patriotic ribbon added to my porch column:
I think that helps with color until the mandevilla gets going ~ what do you think??
One more misc. photo ~ Emerurus 'cleopatra' opened its first two buds yesterday.
Four towering bloom stalks this year! Whew. I'm beside myself with anticipation. Stay tuned for that too!
I am looking forward to that tall plant opening too. You know it is all about the anticipation with gardening-at least I think so.

Fireworks for sure! I'm now convinced that I have to add some of these to my gardens. Love the patriotic post - looks great.

The alliums are amazing -- they do, indeed, look like fireworks. And I think your ribbon is a wonderful touch. :)

I added these unusual Alliums to my garden last fall and was thrilled when they bloomed this year. They are such a cool plant, their on my add more list this fall. :) I think you captured their effect beautifully.

Hi Kathleen. Girl your Foxtail lilies are going to be so beautiful. This was the first year for my yellow one. I had to try one to see if I would like them. I love your pink much better. I can see fireworks in the alluim blooms! Have a wonderful weekend.
