If you've been reading my blog for even the tiniest bit, you've probably picked up on the fact that winter isn't my favorite season. For that reason alone, this post will likely surprise you. You can't get any more "wintry" than ice crystals. Two things happened for these photos to even occur. First, the crystals were on the outside of my front door (so I could stand inside and take the photos thru the glass!)
and secondly, I am unable to resist the lure of a good photo. I just had to see what my lens could capture, especially if it didn't require boots and a coat.
Don't the patterns look like needles on a tree branch?
It was a balmy 3 degrees when I awoke this morning, and another 2 inches of fresh snow had fallen overnight. The sky was still overcast, hence the gray background. If my brain weren't so fuzzy in the AM's, maybe I would have thought to put a light behind the crystals to really make them shine. Can't you just see how spectacular that would have been?
I think that's as close as I'm getting to winter photos. I usually try to avoid them like the plague. You know, denial. It works for me. If I do it long enough, it's eventually spring. What a happy thought!
Good thing you were able to stay warm or we wouldn't have had such fantastic photos.

I'm glad you didn't have to venture outdoors to get these interesting photos. Very pretty and they would of looked great with a light behind them too. :)

Kathleen,
Brr...it is cold where you are to have ice crystals! They are gorgeous! Your macro lens are too cool! Gail

Kathleen, These photos are absolutely beautiful! Bonus, bonus: You were able to stay warm while taking them! Love your artistic photos. :-)

Well, spring isn't too far away, is it? Your frost crystals turned out much better than mine did.

Fabulous Kasey! I love these icy shots. I'm not a winter fan either, but I've forced myself out into the cold now and then to snap some photos for the blog, and it's making me appreciate winter a bit more than I usually do. Go ahead, try it! I still MUCH prefer summer, but winter's not quite as bad once you see it close up.

So pretty! Made me think of fern fronds, fossilized fern fronds. I am in awe of your camera! Of course even with the best camera it still takes talent and an artist's eye to capture the wonderful photos that you do. :}

lol. Thanks Tina. Pretty sad when I won't even venture out to take pictures, isn't it?!

Thank you Racquel. Maybe next time I'll remember?!

Yes, Gail, WAY to cold for my tastes. I think it's all of 5 degrees even today. But on the bright side, a warm up is in store! Yay! Did I read that you got a new camera?? If so, congrats are in order!

Thank you so much Shady Gardener. I'm kind of a wimp tho for taking these indoors, aren't I?!!

That's what I keep telling myself Cinj! I hope it's right. I remember your pretty iced window shots too.

Thanks for the encouragement RobinL ~ but I still might need you to come over and give me shove out the door for it to happen!! ;-)

You are so sweet Beckie. Thank you. I never thought of fern fronds but you are SO right ~ they do remind me of those too. Interesting, huh?

I love winter too- especially this winter! I love the snow, but I love color, so my favorite season is fall. Fantastic photos, Kathleen- boy, I wish I had a SLR camera and a micro lens- I am absolutely fascinated with micro-photography!

How stunning! and what a good idea for taking winter photos...last week I fell backwards into a big snow pile trying to get a good one of my kids...I was covered with snow, but I managed to save the camera :)
