Popping in tonight for a little update. I feel like I've been missing a good friend. Funny how a little reprieve from the computer feels like something is missing in life! Posts may still be a bit sporadic but after a flurry of activity, I feel like I finally have a "handle" on Christmas. The mailing and decorating are done, the shopping almost finished, more wrapping to follow but baking is what has had me preoccupied this week. Monday was our neighborhood Christmas cookie exchange:
This year I hosted, we made 7 dozen cookies each and had 14 participants. We each ended up with 1/2 dozen of 14 different yummy holiday favorites. Above is the right side of my tray, and below is the left side:
If you can believe it, 24 hours after the exchange, I had zero cookies left! Some of my daughters friends came over and happily devoured the entire platter! At least I didn't, right?!! My contribution can't be seen in the above photos. I made my favorite ~ "Buckeyes" ~ and had to hide them in the garage (prior to the exchange) to make sure I stayed out of them. Yum. I was happy to see many other beloved childhood varieties as well. It's funny how everyone loves a different kind. I wonder what your favorite is???
Ooo, don't they all look yummy! I'd be hard pressed to pick just one favorite, but I do love shortbreads (the real butter/brown sugar/flour variety); I also make a ginger (sparkler) cookie that my kids really like; Snickerdoodles would be another hit in our family, as are Swedish Teas that my Mom always made when I was at home. So many, it's hard to choose just one!

They do all look good. Especially the candy cane since it reminds me of my childhood. I have never participated in a cookie exchange but find the idea to be a good one.

Welcome back! The cookies look delicious and hard to resist...my husband makes the cookies..A Chocolate Whopper which is almost all chocolate, a small amount of flour and pecans. So good. Sigh! Gail

How nice to find a post by you tonight! The cookies look wonderful! My very favorites, the ones I make each year, are cherry winks and kringle. :-)

My favorite? I guess it depends on the mood I'm in. Frosted butter cookies are right up there, but there's fudge, Russian teacakes,... I could go on and on. I can see why they were eaten up so quickly. Maybe I should have the kids invite some firends over so I don't end up eating all of the cookies I'm going to be making this week with Peanut. Well we DO have to make some for Santa now, don't we? Maybe I could talk him into taking the leftovers to feed all of his elves and his dear wife....

I know what you mean Nancy. It's hard for me to pick just one favorite too. I like all your choices as well.

Cookie exchanges are really fun Tina and a great way to get a nice variety of cookies without doing all the baking yourself.

Thanks Gail! and aren't you lucky to have a husband that cooks?! That's on my list of "must have's" for the next time around. ;-) Your chocolate whopper sounds sinfully delicious.

Aren't you nice Shady Gardener? and I haven't had cherry winks in years! Now I want some!! Those are so good. Happy holidays!

Yes, Santa needs some cookies Cinj! You have to make some for that reason alone. :-) Cookies are SO tempting. I can never eat just one. That's why I had to get them out of here!! Have fun baking.

Cookie exchanges are alot of fun Kathleen. Another event I enjoy is Ornament exchanges. :) Looks like you got a great assortment, no wonder they were eaten up so quickly.

I've never done an ornament exchange Racquel. That sounds like fun too. Maybe next year??
